How to Effectively Landscape with Rocks

Landscaping with rocks, Las Vegas
Use Rocks like the Pro You Are
Frame a Landscape with Rocks
If you’d like to take your backyard landscape up another notch, it’s time to get creative and incorporate some rocks.  Rocks are ideal hardscape materials that pull out beauty from your plants while adding definition and a defined structure to any garden area.  Rock is a material that requires no additional maintenance either as it’s a naturally occurring element (duh!).

Patio Rocks
Hardscaping with rocks is a must.  We recommend binding your rocks with mortar, brick or concrete.  In any case, building a patio with rocks is a fantastic way to feel like you’re on vacation in your own backyard.  Patios also reduce the amount of lawn & grass that needs consistent maintenance in your backyard- as well as reducing the water usage needed.

Anchor Plant Beds with Rocks
Adding rocks to your planting bed is an awesome way to give it an anchor.  This is especially true for brick homes where the rocks in the bed play nicely with the home’s exterior. Designing a garden landscape with rocks is an effective way to add character to any yard.

Building Bordering Rock Walls
Stone walls built with various types of rocks can add the following to any landscape:
  • Defining property lines
  • Adding an enclosure around any vegetable garden
  • Lining any driveway
  • Preventing erosion through use of a retaining walls

Know the Proper Shape & Size of Rocks Needed
Picking out rocks that fit well into your landscape is crucial to the effectiveness of landscaping with rocks in Las Vegas.  If you are purchasing rocks to build steps or a pathway, there is a wide difference between the rocks used to aid in landscape design.  Ensuring any rocks used in steps are flat enough to be stable is something you’ll want to confirm beforehand as having people fall in your backyard is a nightmare.

If you are building a walkway with rocks we suggest intertwining either moss or creeping thyme in between the cracks of rock.  This will break up the monotony of the rock formation while adding a soft touch to your walkway.

Incorporate Water in Your Rock Placement
The combination of water flowing through rocks is majestic to any landscape. Much of these landscape roots can be traced back to Japanese gardens where water & rock formations are a staple.  Stone fountains are always a welcome addition to a backyard and can add a layer of class that can’t be found within your typical desert landscape.  Simply having water trickle through a rock formation can have a shocking impact on the energy your backyard gives off.
