7 Landscaping Ideas for Your Backyard

Create a Border
Creating a border helps to separate items in your backyard.  Want the flower bed separated from your lawn?  Get yourself a few bricks and lay a neat perimeter around the soil.  You can even add mulch to the soil to give the plants a boost of nutrients & increase the attractiveness of the bed.

Adding Pallets
One of the most versatile ways to add to your backyard is through the careful placement of pallets. You can use such pallets to build outdoor furniture, construct storage containers for items, assemble window boxes, enclose areas with walls, construct planters & more!   Another simple use of pallets is to build  a bench near a swing or tree in your yard.

Walkways that Don't Break the Bank
Is there anything more attractive than a backyard walkway?  By using cheap materials like crushed stone, garden rocks or gravel, you can keep costs reduced while making a gorgeous pathway for visitors.  This also helps keep your grass in pristine condition as guests will use the pathway instead of trampling through the lawn.

Cover Your Ground Inexpensively
Fresh sod can be pricey & take a lot of time to maintain.  If you need to cover large amounts of lawn while keeping costs low, consider affordable ways to cover your grass like thyme, bishop's weeds or lamium.  These plants help to germinate your lawn quickly, cover the area with flowers & other plant-forms. Instead of doing this on your entire lawn, we recommend applying to areas that are difficult to maintain- often which can be high-shade areas or side yards.

Add Lighting
If you're hosting guests this summer, you can make your landscape much more inviting with some well-placed lights.  Hanging lights over your deck, in nearby bushes or around tree branches will enhance the look of your yard.  Using LED lights will help make the look natural.

Invest in Your Plants and Shrubs
It's easy to get drawn to more mature plants (opposite of dating?) when selecting your floral landscape.  Often, these older plants come with a heftier price tag.  By buying more youthful plants and shrubs, you will be able to save money on the front-end and can watch their amazing growth for a longer period.  Proper nourishment and maintenance is, of course, required!

Perennials Perennials Perennials
These should be your best friend.  Perennials are an affordable plant that bursts with gorgeous leaves and flowers.  This is in contrast to many plants that die off at the end of the year.  Since perennials germinate over many years, you can uproot fresh blooms and add them to your backyard.  This will help your desert landscape flourish while keeping costs low.
